Spent the weekend wandering the streets of the downtown eastside studios on this years “cultural crawl”. It was extremely well attended and had tons of impressive participants, but of course the pinnacle location is David Robinsons Gallery at 1000 Parker here’s a rare sparse moment where one could actually see his fantastic work! Below is the artist himself, David Robinson, Basia and the very Reverend Harry Robinson. It was so nice to see Rev. Robinson after many years and will get to hear him speak at Cates Hill Chapel here on Bowen the first sunday of december. It was a great weekend to catch up with old friends and memories.

Here I am with the present occupant of what was once my own “hole in the wall” living space, way back in 1980, 81, or so, down on the waterfront at Railway street in the heart of the troubled downtown east side. Wow! 28 years ago! I would shiver in here in the winter and I’d forgotten how small and narrow it was, and only one window, but what a view!. Other than the bright light, heat and organized textiles, the space is unchanged! Goodtimes…

Now here’s the Frank Zappa we all know and remember, a pretty nice performance with Adrian Belew, But check out how he got his start on The Steve Allen show which of course was the forerunner to Johnny Carson, Steve Allen was pretty amazing guy and to bring Zappa on the show was pretty crazy back then, I think?

Now I don’t know if you’ve seen her video “bad romance” I’m certainly not linking to it, or of course embedding it and I hate to even suggest anyone see it, but I have, and it is disturbingly brilliant? She is truly an artist and that’s the rub, because I’ve always been of the opinion that art is bad or good depending on its motivation and the philosophy behind it. not wether it’s original or effective, I mean Leni Riefenstahls films were effective and very well done but morally repulsive in their lies to support Hitler. from our postmodern perspective who can judge Lady Gaga with a subjective outlook?? However I predict she will be a powerful force of destruction towards the young and impressionable because she’s very artistic and imaginative and therefore effective. God help us…
