John Coltrane intuitively knew in his heart that science and facts are not the only truth. That God ultimately is sovereign and created all that we study through science. The best live performance to illustrate this would be something from his ” A Love Supreme” but there is none to be found that I know of?

However this piece with Mcoy Tyner on piano also exemplifies for me the profound statements of St. Paul in his letter to the romans:

“ In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” Romans ch. 8 vs.26&27.

John Coltrane plays music that goes beyond words or simple hooks and melodies, it searches and grasps at truths we don’t understand.

Truths in the realms of God’s understanding not ours. Our postmodern world has seemed to given up and will not even look at the writings of St. Paul. Forget Rumi or Sam Harris Or Dawkins or Deepak Chopra their writings don’t even come close to what Paul writes in just one chapter of his letter.  Romans chapter 8 is perhaps one the most profound writings we have in all our libraries!
